Father’s Day. Sons and daughters around the world will be taking over the pool cleaning chore for Dad (I assume). So, if this turns out to be your job this Sunday, and you need a little help, then you’ve come to the right place.
Get the Swimming Pool Ready for Father’s Day
Swim University will help you turn your swimming pool into a clear and clean paradise, so Dad can lounge by the pool with an ice cold drink of choice, or dare to float on his lounger without being tipped over by YOU. Tipping your Dad over on a lounger shows him you care – at least that’s what I tell my Dad 🙂
Breakout the skimmer net, the vacuum, and grease up your elbows cause it’s time to get some work done.
NOTE: We are going to assume that the pool is clear and free of pool algae.
1. Brush That Pool
Take your telescopic pole and attach a pool brush to it. Start brushing down the walls, steps, ladders and any hard-to-reach areas of your pool, including creases and corners.
2. Vacuum That Pool
If you have an automatic pool cleaner, that’s awesome! Just hook it up and drop it in the pool. If you don’t, you’ll have to hook up the manual vacuum cleaner.
Attach the vacuum head to the telescopic pole and the vacuum hose to the top of the vacuum head. With the pump and filter running, take the other end of the hose to put it up against the return jet to fill the hose with water. You don’t want any air in the hose or it won’t create a proper siphon.
Now, connect the other end of the hose to your skimmer using a vac plate or directly into the port under the basket.
Slowly move the vacuum across the pool floor and make sure you target the dirty spots.
3. Skim That Pool
Now that the pool is brushed and the bottom is cleaned, it’s time to skim the top. Attach the skimmer net to your telescopic pole and skim the entire surface of the water.
Make sure you do this right before swim time to achieve maximum Dad happiness.
4. Check That Pool
Take a water sample to your local pool store to be tested, or use a home test kit or test strips to make sure the water is properly balanced and sanitized.
5. Chemical-ize That Pool?
That was a tough heading, but you get the picture. Add any necessary chemicals to the water. Make sure that the following items are at the proper levels:
Chlorine, Bromine, Biguanide (Baquacil), or any type of sanitizer you use
pH
Alkalinity
Now that the pool is ready for Dad, you can sit back and relax with him on Father’s Day. Unless you are in charge of mowing the lawn or making him his drinks. Either way, Dad will be happy that he got to take a break from taking care of the swimming pool this Sunday. But after that, it’s Dad duty again.
